The Universitarian Salon of Humor of Piracicaba was born in 1992, by the initiative of Almir de Souza Maia, at the time president of UNIMEP, with the support of a group of scholarship and employees from the institution, among them it was Adolpho Queiroz, one of the creators of the well-know International Salon of Humor of Piracicaba and first president of the Organizational Committee for the Universitarian event.
Created with the purpose of being a true environment for artistic manifestation and for discovering of new talents, the UNIMEP Salon did not stop growing, becoming one of the most respected events in this area in Brazil. Here, a few of the new artists of graphic humor wan their first prizes: Flávio Rossi, Rodrigo Rosa, Pryscila Vieira, Páffaro among others talents.

By the uncountable Juries of selection and award of the Universitarian Salon of Humor of UNIMEP, were members a few of the best talents of national CARTUM: Ziraldo, Zélio, Borjalo, Luis Fernando Verissimo, Laerte, Angeli, Paulo Caruso, Fernando Gonsales, Adão, Dalcio, Jean, Sônia Luyten, Jal, Gual, Carvall, Mariano, Da Costa, Morettini, Cláudio and others.
It was born as a nacional event, the Universitarian Salon of Humor was soon a latin-america event, and now it was open to universities from all over the world.

The salon was nominated between the Salons of Graphic Humor by the Trophy HQ MIX. In 2005 the event become part of the newly created Universitarian Program of Humor from Unimep, a new project that seeks the development of a space dedicated to the lovers, researchers and artists related to the area.

Beside the management of the UNIMEP Salon, the program foresee the creation of a data bank about the theme, the production of documentaries, tips, interviews and virtual expositions, making viable the recovery of works and the exchange between all that are involved in this rich and impassion with this artistic universe.
